AS A MEMBER,
YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE

Our ACTION Teams raise awareness of issues on the local level and work to influence change. JOIN A TEAM!

The LWVSRQ relies on our members, who have all levels of time, education and skills. We don’t all think alike, nor do we all support the same political party. However, we are united by our belief that democracy thrives when citizens are informed, educated and engaged.

VOTER SERVICES
What We’re Known For!

• Get certified and register voters
• Hand Out bilingual flyers at food banks
• Address postcards to “Returning Citizens”

Healthcare

We are “petition warriors”! We got Amendment 4 on the ballot! Despite the fact that Amendment 4 received 57% of the votes cast, it didn’t meet the 60% required to pass. However, we are continuing to work with our coalition partners to protect the right to access affordable, high-quality reproductive health care. Learn More...
  • Join the Sarasota Memorial Hospital Board Observer Corps.

  • Organize informational forums to educate voters on issues affecting healthcare and reproductive rights in Sarasota County.

  • Write letters to the editor or op/ed articles.

  • Get petitions signed to put Medicaid Expansion on the 2026 ballot

Natural Resources

For four years in a row, Sarasota citizens have designated population growth and new development as their top concern. For many of us, quality of life is synonymous with preservation of our natural resources.
  • Organize forums and speakers to educate voters on issues affecting our local ecosystems and quality of life.
  • Write letters to the editor or op/ed articles.
  • Petition to get the “The Right to Clean Water Amendment” on the 2026 ballot.

Election Reform

Year after year this is the League’s top legislative priority. Between gerrymandering, our antiquated Electoral College and Florida’s closed primary system, many voters believe, justifiably, that their vote doesn’t count. This team needs a leader!

  • Join our School Board Observer Corps. Read Report Cards Here.
  • Learn about education-focused legislation.
  • Write letters to the editor or op/ed articles.
  • Judge entries for our YVOTE contest.
  • Develop programs which focus on education.

Gun Violence
Prevention

The LWVFL and our chapter have designated this as one of our top legislative priorities. Year after year the League lobbies for more sensible gun laws and works with like minded organizations to find a solution. This team needs a leader!
